Venezuela Opposition Leader's Headquarters Raided by Masked Robbers

Masked assailants broke into Venezuela’s opposition leader’s headquarters five days after the presidential election.
Venezuela opposition leader María Corina Machado’s headquarters were raided early Friday morning by masked assailants, who reportedly took valuable documents and equipment.
The incident took place just five days after Venezuela’s presidential election on Sunday, where incumbent president Nicolás Maduro claimed victory for a third term.
Meanwhile, Machado has been threatened with arrest and has gone into hiding in recent days. On Thursday, The Wall Street Journal published an opinion article written by Machado, in which she stated that she is «fearing for my life, my freedom, and that of my fellow countrymen from the dictatorship led by Nicolás Maduro.»
Newsweek reached out to Venezuela’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for comment via email on Friday.
On X (formerly Twitter), Machado shared two photos of what appeared to be her campaign office in disarray with vandalism after the raid.
The opposition party, led by Machado—who is banned from running—disputes the Maduro’s declared victory, claiming that candidate Edmundo González Urrutia won, citing alleged polling center tallies that contradict the president’s figures.
