Red Bull has come under fire from a former NASCAR Cup Series driver for parting ways with Liam Lawson for Yuki Tsunoda.
Red Bull Racing Formula One team has come under fire from former NASCAR Cup Series driver Parker Kligerman for parting ways with its new driver Liam Lawson after just two Grands Prix. Kligerman stressed that replacing drivers «discredits» the whole process of driver selection and revealed that such actions boil his «blood.»
While Kligerman expressed his opinions based on speculation of Lawson’s Red Bull exit, Newsweek Sports reported Red Bull’s official confirmation earlier today that the Milton Keynes-based team had indeed dropped the New Zealander for Yuki Tsunoda. Lawson, meanwhile, will take Tsunoda’s seat in the junior F1 team Racing Bulls.
Red Bull selected Lawson over Tsunoda after the 2024 F1 season when both drivers were being assessed at Racing Bulls (then VCARB). Despite Tsunoda’s strong performance and extensive F1 experience, Red Bull chose a less-experienced Lawson, reportedly for his ability to perform under pressure.
