US to Pull Out of Task Force Probing Russian Aggression in Ukraine

The New York Times reported that the U.S. will withdraw from a group investigating Vladimir Putin’s full-scale invasion.
The U.S. is withdrawing from an international group investigating those responsible for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, including President Vladimir Putin, it has been reported.
The Justice Department has informed European officials about plans to withdraw from the International Center for the Prosecution of the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine, according to The New York Times, which cited people familiar with the situation.
The decision is expected to be announced on Monday in an email to the staff and membership of the group’s parent organization, the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (Eurojust).
Newsweek has contacted the Justice Department and Eurojust for comment.Why It Matters
The Biden administration joined the International Center for the Prosecution of the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine in 2023 making the U.S. the only country outside of Europe to cooperate with the group.
Withdrawing from it is likely to be seen as the latest indication of the Trump administration’s move away from Biden’s push to make Putin personally accountable for crimes committed in Ukraine.
