If you’re a photographer or a content creator looking for a backup option for your multitudinous media files, you’ll like the Crucial X9 SSD. And it’s $45 off for Prime Day.
I’ve been taking pictures both as a hobby and vocation for more than 20 years, and in that time have built up a large archive of images, nearly 20TB of Raw and JPG digital photos, plus scanned film saved in TIFF and DNG. It’s fair to say this is my life’s work, and the thought of losing it all to a drive failure is enough to keep me up at night.
To soothe my anxiety, I’ve opted for redundancy. My main storage drive is a LaCie 6big Thunderbolt RAID configured so that two of its six drives could fail without data loss. I back all of that up to another external drive, and upload all of my finished images as JPGs to Smugmug cloud storage. I jokingly refer to it as a belt-and-suspenders approach to photo storage.
But last year, I ran into a problem: My LaCie RAID was filled to the brim. I ran through several options to address the issue, but decided to start offloading photos to an SSD rather than investing in yet another spinning disk.
