Benintendi finished 4-for-5 with five RBIs in Tuesday’s 12-3 win.
Left fielder Andrew Benintendi giveth and he taketh away.
In the first inning, Benintendi, a former Gold Glove winner, misplayed a ball in left field that went over his head and allowed Twins star center fielder Byron Buxton to reach on a base hit. Benintendi’s subsequent poor throw after he corralled the ball allowed Buxton to reach third for a leadoff triple.
Then, on a fly ball, Benintendi slipped as he ran in to make the catch — he did complete the grab. His first inning was not one you show aspiring ball players on how to defend.
But Benintendi atoned for his mistakes in the next inning, slugging a solo homer to tie the game. With runners on second and third in the sixth, Benintendi drove in the go-ahead run in Tuesday’s 12-3 win, the Sox’ third straight win.
Benintendi finished 4-for-5 with two homers — his second multi-homer game of the season — with five RBIs.
The Sox, for once, were the team that took advantage of an opponent’s poor fielding and base-running lapses.
