This round of layoffs is the second mass job cut since October, when Amazon shed 14,000 roles. The moves are part of a broad effort by the company to operate more efficiently amid rapid advances in AI. Amazon didn’t respond to requests for further comments on the job cuts.
Employees who received a layoff notification will receive full pay and benefits for 90 days plus an additional severance package, and are no longer expected to perform any work, according to the document.
Amazon’s public announcement stated that the company is offering most US-based employees 90 days to search for a new role internally. The FAQ states affected employees are «welcome to apply for available roles through the internal process» during the 90-day notification period.
