Speed skater Francesca Lollobrigida set a new Olympic record on her 35th birthday on Saturday en route to winning Italy’s first Olympic gold medal of the 2026 Milan Cortina Games.
Lollobrigida skated the 3,000-meter race in a record 3 minutes, 54.28 seconds, trimming more than two-and-a-half seconds off the previous record set by Dutch skater Irene Schouten in the 2022 Beijing Games.
