Sprint’s promotion nets those who own Snapdragon-powered Windows PCs free LTE through the end of 2018, though there are some caveats.
Qualcomm and Microsoft’s “Always Connected PC” platform is a promising one, but one that also requires some sort of LTE plan to fulfill. That is where Sprint’s recent promotion comes on, though it has its own set of caveats.
Thanks to the promotion, you can get free and unlimited 4G LTE for your Asus NovaGo, HP Envy x2, or Lenovo Miix 630. All three are Snapdragon 835-powered PCs that promise to deliver long battery life and thin designs, though early reviews complained of sluggish performance and lack of compatibility with certain Windows apps.
Keep in mind that the free data with “speed maximums” only lasts through December 31, after which you can cancel your subscription or pay $15 per month for continued LTE use. That figure drops to $10 per month if you use Autopay.
Also, even though you do not pay for the data, you are still on the hook for “taxes, fees, and surcharges” that usually vary by state.
Finally, Sprint does not sell any of the Snapdragon-powered PCs directly, though that could change in the future. For the time being, you will have to buy a device, take it to a Sprint store, buy a compatible SIM card, and activate LTE.
Even with the caveats, Sprint’s promotion is a good one if you want LTE for your Snapdragon-powered PC. It is a bit weird that Asus, HP, Lenovo, Qualcomm, and Microsoft kept quiet about this, so expect news from them sometime soon.
In the meantime, let us know in the comments if you picked up a Snapdragon-powered PC and are interested in Sprint’s promotion.
