Philadelphia mayor slams Trump as 'fragile egomaniac' after Eagles White House snub

Jim Kenney, the mayor of Philadelphia, slammed President Trump for disinviting the Eagles from visiting the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl win.
Philadelphia’s Mayor Democrat Jim Kenney slammed President Trump for disinviting the Eagles from visiting the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl win.
In a sharply worded statement Kenney defends his city’s NFL team writing, “Disinviting them from the White House only proves that our President is not a true patriot, but a fragile egomaniac obsessed with crowd size and afraid of the embarrassment of throwing a party to which no one wants to attend.”
Reports surfaced the Eagles’ team owner Jeffrey Lurie was planning to send fewer than 10 players to the nonpartisan super bowl celebration. Trump in a statement and on Twitter referencing those small numbers saying the “1,000 fans planning to attend the event deserve better.” Then adding, “Staying in the Locker Room for the playing of our National Anthem is as disrespectful to our country as kneeling.”
Rather, Trump now says he’ll be holding a different kind of celebration tweeting, “We will proudly be playing the National Anthem and other wonderful music celebrating our Country today at 3 P. M., The White House, with the United States Marine Band and the United States Army Chorus. Honoring America! NFL, no escaping to Locker Rooms!”
Last year a smaller delegation for the New England Patriots was invited to celebrate its super bowl win. At the time, that team, owned by a prominent Trump supporter, attended as planned.
