Earlier today, at the Reliance AGM 2018 event, the company’s chairman and MD Mukesh Ambani made an array of announcements. The company introduced its FTTH JioFiber service at the event, as well as unveiled the JioPhone 2 feature phone. The next-gen JioPhone comes with a handful of upgrades, including a full QWERTY keyboard.
To recap, the brand introduced its first JioPhone ( first impressions) at the 40th AGM event held last year. Along with being one of the most affordable 4G and VoLTE-enabled feature phones, the handset was also received well by Indian audience owing to Jio’s tariff plans and the attractive launch offers that Jio introduced. Those who wished to purchase the phone had to shell out a security deposit of Rs 1,500, which was refundable after a period of three years upon returning the device, making it effectively free. Now, at its 41st AGM event, Reliance announced Monsoon Hungama offer, wherein users can upgrade to JioPhone by exchanging any feature phone and paying an extra Rs 501.
Speaking of the Reliance JioPhone 2, the phone comes with a 2.4-inch display and a full QWERTY keypad, making messaging easier. To make full use of the keypad, the brand has also finally introduced the native WhatsApp app along with YouTube and Facebook. The phone runs on KaiOS and comes with support for the brand’s virtual assistant. The phone comes with 512MB of RAM and 4Gb of storage, which can be further expanded with a microSD card. In the camera department, the JioPhone 2 comes with a 2-megapixel rear camera and 0.3-megapixel selfie shooter. For power requirements, the handset gets a 2,000mAh battery.
The Monsoon Hungama offer for the first-generation JioPhone will kick off on July 21 throughout India. The JioPhone 2, on the other hand, will set you back by Rs 2,999 and will go on sale starting August 15.
