Windows 10 IoT Core Services is specifically targeted at customers who want to embrace Windows 10 IoT for their devices, but at the same time be sure that long-term support is available. Microsoft promises updates for up to ten years.
Furthermore, Windows 10 IoT Core Services comes with device update control, plus rights to commercialize with Device Health Attestation.
“This cloud-based service evaluates device health and can integrate with a device management system to improve the security of an IoT solution. These features give our partners the foundation to build sustainable business models based on Windows 10 IoT Core,” Microsoft explains.
As compared to Windows 10 IoT Core, this new product comes with a fee, and Microsoft is offering three different options to customers who want to install it on their devices.
First and foremost, businesses and solution integrators can get it with an Azure subscription, and the pricing begins at $0.30 per device per month. This price will come into effect later this fall when Microsoft launches Windows 10 IoT Core Services officially, and during the preview period, meaning right now, the price drops to $0.15 per device per month.
Additionally, Microsoft is also offering a new option to partners enrolled in the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program to resell the service as a pay-as-you-go subscription that will become available later this year.
And last but not least, OEMs can also get Windows 10 IoT Core Services for a device by pre-paying for the product, though full specifics would be announced at a later time when it becomes available.
“Microsoft is committed to offerings to help our partners provide compelling solutions and achieve their business goals. Along with our recently announced support for NXP silicon platforms, long-term support, and the Windows AI Platform, Windows 10 IoT Core Services is another step in meeting our partners’ needs,” Microsoft concludes.
