House Majority Whip Steve Scalise confirmed Thursday that he would support impeachment proceedings against Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
“Frankly it’s mind-boggling that [the] Justice [Department] won’t comply,” Mr. Scalise, Louisiana Republican, said on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom.”
Republican lawmakers introduced articles of impeachment against Mr. Rosenstein on Wednesday after threatening to do so for weeks. They argue that the Justice Department official is keeping information hidden from Congress despite multiple requests for documents.
Mr. Scalise said the impeachment proceedings may not necessarily go through, but that ultimately depends on if Mr. Rosenstein delivers more documents. The articles introduced should be seen as yet another tool to get information from the Justice Department, he said.
“People want to know what is being done to root out the bad apples at the FBI,” Mr. Scalise said. “ Rosenstein has not done his job in complying with Congress.”
The congressman said the vote on impeachment may not happen Thursday, but when asked, Mr. Scalise confirmed he’d vote against Mr. Rosenstein if it comes to it.
