Following last year’s launch of the Galaxy Tab S3, rumors have been surfacing about its successor, the Galaxy Tab S4. While there aren’t too many details, various reports and rumored specs have helped us gather information on Samsung’s latest tablet.
Here’s everything we know about the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4.
According to Best Buy, it looks like there will be two versions of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4. The least expensive version will have 64GB of Storage and 4GB of RAM for $650. There’s also a 256GB version with 4GB of RAM that will sell for $750. The site doesn’t list an availability date.
Samsung is really stepping up with the camera on the Galaxy Tab S4. According to a the specs on the Best Buy website, the upcoming Tab S4 will have a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera. It will be capable of UHD 4K video at 30 frames per second. The front-facing camera comes in 8-megapixels.
Details about the look of the Galaxy Tab S4 have been scarce. However, with just weeks until its expected announcement, it seems we may finally have a glimpse of the tablet, with leaked images coming courtesy of a couple of sources. Ever-reliable leakster Evan Blass has offered us our latest look at the white version of the Galaxy Tab S4, with an upgraded S Pen, and optional keyboard cover.
Other imagery shows the new S Pen side by side with the older S Pen, and shows the back of the white Galaxy Tab S4 as well. These images back up the earlier images from Android Headlines, which showed the Tab S4 from multiple angles.
If these leaks are accurate — and with the quality of the leaks, they may well be — the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 looks a lot like its predecessor. There are two major exceptions though: The bezels have been reduced, and there’s no home button. The missing home button suggests the tablet could feature an in-display fingerprint sensor or, more likely, will use the front-facing camera for facial authentication.
While the Tab S4 is rumored to have a 10.5-inch display, the reduced bezels mean its overall footprint may not be that much larger than that of the Galaxy Tab S3’s 9.7-inch screen. That tablet also included a Super AMOLED screen, but it’s currently unclear whether the new device will feature the same screen tech.
However, the device is claimed to boast a 2560 x 1600-pixel resolution, which is larger than the Tab S3. That tablet’s screen only offered a 2048 x 1536-pixel resolution.
Although some rumors have suggested the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 would launch in July, that seems a little early. We’re anticipating an appearance from the Tab S4 at the Samsung Unpacked event in Brooklyn, New York on August 9. It’s likely to share the limelight with the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Samsung Gear S4.
We don’t know when the Samsung Tab S4 will be available just yet, but if we had to venture a guess, we’d say you could expect to see it in stores around the end of August or beginning of September.
First spotted by Sammobile, a benchmark-spec listing surfaced for a device called the Samsung SM-T835 — which is most likely the Galaxy Tab S4. The latest report from the site confirms a Galaxy Tab S4 is in the works after the company received a Bluetooth certification. Under product name, the document specifically names the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 as the device that received the certification. Samsung earlier received certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance at the beginning of May.
Underneath the hood, the device is powered by the Snapdragon 835 chipset — which is currently the flagship chip. It’s also an upgrade from the Snapdragon 820 included in its predecessor. While it’s listed as having 3.1GB of RAM, it’s likely that it will actually be 4GB once the device is released. The currently rumored 52GB of storage will most likely be 64GB. As for the camera, it will come with a 7-megapixel front-facing camera and a 12-megapixel rear camera.
As for its operating system, the tablet will reportedly run Android 8.0 Oreo — Android’s latest OS. But the potential release of the tablet comes only one month before the official release of Google’s Android P operating system in August.
A leak from Best Buy shows the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 will have an absolutely massive battery. It states the Tab S4 will have a 7,300mAh battery that should get you 16 hours of use. I
