Asus has been providing a lot of software updates to the Zenfone 5Z, and improving the performance of the device. This is the third OTA software update released for the phone in this month. The previous update was released less than a week ago and it brought the gesture navigation support to the device.
A lot of users have been asking for this feature, and Asus delivered. Prior to that, an update also enabled RAW capture, the Panorama feature in the Camera app, improved Wi-Fi, added a toggle to enable/disable EIS, and more. So yes, Asus has been listening to its users and providing timely updates with newer security patches as well.
Asus Zenfone 5Z Latest Update Brings Support for Android 9 Pie like Navigation Gestures
The latest software update for the Asus Zenfone 5Z carries the version number WW-80.30.96.80 and is currently rolling out over-the-air. You will need to have the previous version installed to receive this OTA update.
This update brings plenty of improvements to the camera, Face unlock, and also includes the latest Android security patch. In the camera, the update adds a new Auto anti-flicker feature that automatically switches the display frequency based on light conditions. It also adds support for EIS when shooting 1080p 60FPS videos and 18:9 30FPS videos. The camera can now automatically switch between OIS/EIS based on the conditions. There’s a heat detection mode when recording FHD and UHD videos, a 3D Noise reduction feature in Pro mode, and improvements to the Selfie camera and the Manual White Balance in Pro mode.
Apart from those camera improvements, which is a lot, the update also adds a new Lift to Face Unlock option. When this is enabled, you can simply lift the phone to wake the screen and unlock using your face. And that’s about it!
This is a big update, with a size of 1.6GB, so make sure you download it over Wi-Fi. Also, before you install the update, we recommend that your phone has more than 50 percent charge. This is a phased roll-out, so it could take a few days for all devices to get the update. You can check for the update manually as well, by heading to Settings > System.
The Asus Zenfone 5Z is a great buy, especially since it has the top hardware features available in the Android market. The phone gets a 6.2-inch notched IPS LCD screen with a Full HD+ resolution and a 19:9 aspect ratio. It gets a glass and aluminium design with some funky colors to go with.

The phone comes in three configurations, starting with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. You can also opt for a 6GB RAM and 128GB variant. A microSD slot is also available to increase storage. The fingerprint sensor is placed at the back of the phone.
