The Sept. 6 Nintendo Direct has been cancelled out of respect for victims of a major Japanese earthquake. Nintendo has not yet announced a rescheduled date and time for the presentation.
A Nintendo Direct scheduled for today, Sept. 6, has been cancelled, the company announced, out of respect for the victims of landslides that rocked northern Japan last night.
“Due to the powerful earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan, we have decided to delay this week’s planned Nintendo Direct,” the company said in a press release. “We will provide a new time and date in the near future. Thank you for your understanding.”
The September Nintendo Direct was originally scheduled for 6 p.m. ET today. It will cover upcoming Nintendo Switch and 3DS titles whenever it does air, and will also be Nintendo’s first presentation about multiple games since E3 2018.
Meanwhile, northern Japan continues to reel following numerous power outages, injuries and more as the result of the earthquake.
“At least seven people were killed when a magnitude-6.7 quake struck the northern island of Hokkaido early Thursday, causing landslides which buried a large number of homes at the foot of a ridge,” CNN reports, an impact that the outlet says also resulted in nearly 200 injuries and millions of power outages thus far.
The earthquake follows Typhoon Jebi, a powerful storm that hit the Japanese mainland just yesterday.
