There has been plenty of buzz around the Apple Watch 4, ever since it was announced by the American giant, last week. The device is all set to offer a range of features including the ECG (Electrocardiogram) feature in it, which is what caused the buzz. However, now the company has said that this feature will be limited to devices that are launched in the US, as of now.
The Apple Watch 4 series has been largely talked about for its feature, which allows users to take an Electrocardiogram (ECG) with an ECG app. The device comes with an inbuilt sensor an electrode that can sense the heartbeats and measure it similar to an ECG machine. However, this feature may not be available until the end of this year, according to Apple.
This is certainly disappointing especially considering that this feature was largely hyped by the American giant at the launch. Apple’s website listing for the Apple Watch 4, mentions that the feature will be available to use in the device only from the end of 2018. So, with the device launching in the near future, it is expected that this feature will not be available during the initial launch and will only come as an update.

Another disappointing bit of rumor is that this feature will be limited to Apple Watches sold in the US only. This is largely inferred owing to the fact that the website listing for the product in the UK and Canada pages of Apple doesn’t mention this feature.
Apple also backed this up with a press release citing that the ECG feature will be unveiled in the US and didn’t mention if it would be available in other locations as well. The feature is a simple one to use, as users would have to place their finger on the Digital Crown that accompanies the watch. The watch must also be worn by the user. The electrodes in the crown and the sensors in the watch take and record a reading of ECG, in just a matter of 30 seconds.
The ECG reading will allow users to check and view their heartbeat and if it is beating regularly. The ECG reading will also display any abnormalities that can be indicative of health-related issues, which can then be taken up by the users with their doctor.
An ECG mainly detects an atrial fibrillation, which is a condition that is often undiagnosed until the patient suffers some serious complications. The watch will thus help users to detect heart-related problems at an early stage when they notice any abnormal results in the reading. The device also largely aids convenience as usually, a reading requires an ECG machine and a visit to your doctor.
The company has also taken the necessary approval from the FDA to launch the device as a part of the watch. The FDA has also come out with a statement regarding the app which reads “The ECG app is a software-only mobile medical application intended for use with the Apple Watch to create, record, store, transfer, and display a single channel electrocardiogram (ECG) similar to a Lead I ECG. The ECG app determines the presence of atrial fibrillation (AFib) or sinus rhythm on a classifiable waveform. The ECG app is not recommended for users with other known arrhythmias.”
It has also been recommended by the FDA for people below 22 years of age to not use the device.
