The mid-range market is getting more competitive as we see manufacturers bring specs that usually are found in flagship devices to smartphones at a lower cost. One such feature usually reserved for the more expensive models is wireless charging, but that could be about to change as Samsung looks to introduce the cable-free charging mechanism on its mid-range devices.
Looking at most, if not all, of the mid-range offerings currently, they all have one thing in common – no wireless charging. The Galaxy S and Note series have seen wireless charging through the last few generations but has been purposefully omitted from devices such as the Galaxy A7 presumably to save on cost.
To differentiate itself and catapult Samsung above the Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi that dominate the mid-range market, the company is looking to launch a cheaper wireless charger later this month that will cost just Rs. 1,274 (€15). To provide some context around that, the current cheapest entry-level charging pad costs Rs. 3,397 (€40).
The move to a lower cost wireless charger shows that the company is aiming at making wireless charging more accessible to consumers. By doing so, it opens up wireless charging to the likes of the Galaxy A and Galaxy J series.

The report continues to state that Dong-Jin Dong, CEO of Samsung Electronics’ Information Technology and Mobile (IM) division said that strengthing its presence and competitiveness is the company’s focus by narrowing the gap between the premium and low-end technologies.
A Samsung official said, “We are trying various ways to offer more benefits to low-end smartphone users than before,” he said. “It’s hard to tell about new products that have not been released yet.”
