This time of year is perfect for turning off the lights and putting on a scary game. For many folks, P. T., the “playable teaser” for a since-canned Silent Hills installment, more than fits the bill on Halloween night. Unfortunately, a report is circulating that claims a new patch is locking the P. T. application and keeping players from opening the application.
Reddit user PopulusTrichocapra first reported on the issue on r/SilentHill, leaving a screenshot as proof of their claims. The screen grab indeed shows that the user’s P. T. application had last been updated 10/22 to version 1.01. Beneath the thumbnail is the icon indicating that an application is locked and unplayable. What’s interesting is that other users aren’t experiencing the issue and are having trouble finding version 1.01.
As multiple comments state in the Reddit thread, version 1.00 appears to be the latest update. Game Rant had no issue booting up the game and did not receive a prompt to download any new update. Search results show version 1.00 being the most recent patch.
Naturally, the conspicuous timing and elusiveness of the patch that allegedly rendered one version of P. T. unplayable has piqued the interest of a gaming community that holds the demo to such high regard. Reactions are ranging from curiosity to rage and even a conspiracy theory that Konami released a secret “kill patch” to keep people from playing the game. Why Konami would make such a decision isn’t clear.

T. Thankfully, it doesn’t appear to be a particularly widespread issue. In fact, at the time of this reporting, the Reddit user who originally reported the issue is the only one to have come forward with claims that they received the patch and have been locked out of P. T.
P. T. originally released as a free playable demo for a Silent Hills entry that was in the works, however it received such a positive reaction that it remains relevant today, even after the game it was meant to demonstrate had been canceled.
