Less than a week after she gifted her new single «Thank U, Next» to fans with little warning, the track has started atop the U. K. singles listing, giving the pop singer yet another blockbuster to her name.
«Thank U, Next» debuts at No. 1 across the pond with ease, moving 73,000 equivalent units in less than a week. That’s a hefty sum in the country for any track, let alone one that was released late on Saturday (November 3), which means it was able to grab the top spot despite the fact that it had less than a full week in which to rack up streams and sales.
Grande’s latest is now her third leader in the country. She collected a pair of champions in 2014, first with her own global hit «Problem,» which featured Iggy Azalea, and then a short time later with Jessie J’s «Bang Bang,» which featured her and frequent collaborator Nicki Minaj.
In addition to being her third No. 1 in the U. K., «Thank U, Next» is her ninth top 10, and her fourth this year alone, as all three of the singles released from her recent album Sweetener broke into the area. She first rose as high as No. 2 with «No Tears Left to Cry,» then she followed that up with fellow smashes «God is a Woman» (No. 4) and «Breathin'» (No. 8).
«Thank U, Next» serves as the first single from Grande’s upcoming fifth album, as she stated the collection will use the same title. While she just released a full-length in August to much acclaim (and a No. 1 start on the U. K. albums listing), the chart-topper has been discussing her next full-length on social media, and it could arrive as early as the end of the year.
