A recent ARCore APK teardown had revealed that Google may be working on two new mid-range Pixel smartphones codenamed ‘Bonito’ and ‘Sargo’. The first hands-on images of the upcoming Google Pixel 3 Lite (Sargo) have now been leaked online courtesy of Russian tech blog Rozetked. Unsurprisingly, the Google Pixel 3 Lite appears to be similar to the Google Pixel 3 in terms of the overall design, although there are a few key differences as well.
The images reveal the Google Pixel 3 Lite does not have a notch at the top, just like the standard Pixel 3. It appears quite similar to the Pixel 3 from the back as well, featuring a single rear-facing camera and a circular fingerprint sensor. Fortunately, however, the Pixel 3 Lite does come with a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL both lack a 3.5mm headphone jack.
According to Rozetked, the Google Pixel 3 Lite sports a 5.56-inch IPS display with 1080 x 2220 Full HD+ resolution. Under the hood, the Pixel 3 Lite is said to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 10nm octa-core processor. The Snapdragon 670 is a successor to the highly popular Snapdragon 660 AIE processor that powers quite a few mid-range and budget Android smartphones. In terms of memory, the Pixel 3 Lite will apparently pack 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. While a higher storage variant has not been rumored yet, there is a possibility that Google may offer one at launch.
Moving on to optics, the Google Pixel 3 Lite is said to feature a 12MP rear camera. On the front of the handset will be a single 8MP resolution selfie snapper. Fueling the smartphone will be a 2915mAh capacity battery, identical to the Pixel 3. Fast charging will likely be supported as well. Connectivity-wise, the Pixel 3 Lite will support Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, USB Type-C port, and 4G VoLTE. The smartphone’s rumored specifications certainly sound impressive but we are not exactly sure if the device shown in the images above is indeed the real deal. As you can see in the images above, the Pixel 3 Lite has a “C” instead of “G” on the back. It also makes no sense for Google to reintroduce the 3.5mm headphone jack to its Pixel line. That said, the Pixel 3 Lite images come from the same source that was the first to leak images of the Pixel 3 XL on the web.
As mentioned above, Pixel 3 Lite is not the only rumored mid-range Pixel smartphone. Google is said to be working on another mid-range Pixel smartphone codenamed ‘Bonito’. The device had appeared on the Geekbench benchmark database recently, revealing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC under the hood. Apart from a more powerful chipset, ‘Bonito’ is expected to feature a slightly larger display than the Pixel 3 Lite. Both smartphones are expected to run on the Android 9 Pie operating system out of the box. The two mid-range smartphones were previously expected to be unveiled alongside the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL at Google’s October event. Currently, however, there is no word on when the two mid-range Pixel smartphones could be made official.
