Apple is expected to show off the iPhone 12 at its ‘Hi, Speed’ event on Tuesday. Here’s what we hope it’ll include.

Apple has typically released its latest iPhones in September, but the pandemic forced it to push back the launch a few weeks and release the Apple Watch Series 6 and new iPads first, not to mention iOS 14 and iPadOS 14. If the company follows its usual release schedule, we’ll likely be able to pre-order the new iPhones this week and have them in hand by month’s end. A few rumors suggest that pre-orders for the iPhone 12 Pro models will be delayed until November and ship the same month, but we’ll have to wait until tomorrow for full details. So while other smartphone makers have been busy rolling out 5G phones over the last year, with or without the available spectrum or upgraded tower hardware, Apple has resisted. Now that wireless carriers are solidifying their 5G networks, it seems like a good time for Apple to roll out an iPhone that taps into the technology. And Cupertino seems ready. The tagline for Tuesday’s event is «Hi, Speed,» and as PCMag’s Sascha Segan explained earlier this year, Apple’s App Clips in iOS 14 get developers ready for a 5G world where cloud and local data start to become indistinguishable from each other.
