July 4 (UPI) — The remaining portion of the condominium building in Surfside, Fla., will come down as «soon as possible» as a tropical storm approaches the state, officials said Sunday. The bodies of 24 people, including three children, have been recovered from the Champlain Towers South, but 121 people are still missing. Those figures haven’t changed since Saturday morning. More than half the 13-story building collapsed 10 days ago. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Saturday the planned demolition of the upright portion of the building, which had been scheduled for late July, is now being pushed up to avoid Tropical Storm Elsa. Miami-Dade County is one of the 15 Florida counties for which DeSantis has already declared a state of emergency in anticipation of the storm.
