The company says some batteries can overheat
Fitbit has announced a massive recall of absolutely all Ionic smartwatches it sold worldwide due to what it describes as a burn hazard caused by a faulty battery that can overheat. Only the Fitbit Ionic is concerned by the recall, so all the other models are theoretically fine. The recall covers all Ionic smartwatches sold between 2017 and 2020 when the company stopped building this model. Fitbit recommends customers to stop using the Ionic right away, explaining that everybody will be provided with a refund or special discounts for other Fitbit devices, bands, and services. “After a thorough investigation, we determined that in very limited instances, the battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.
