Minnesota Governor Tim Walz channeled his days as an assistant high school football coach to rally the Democratic team in his acceptance speech on the third night of the Democratic National Convention.
And in a moment widely talked about after the convention closed for the day, his heartfelt comments even brought his son, Gus to tears.
The Democratic vice presidential candidate officially accepted his nomination on stage at the convention in Chicago Wednesday. With 75 days left until election day, Walz told the Democrats in attendance that it was time to get their heads in the game.
“It’s the fourth quarter. We’re down a field goal, but we’re on offense and we’ve got the ball. We’re driving down the field, and boy, do we have the right team,” he said. “Our job is to get in the trenches and do the blocking and tackling.
