Donald Trump Makes Last-Ditch Bid for Stay of Sentencing

Donald Trump has asked an appeal court to stop his sentencing in the Stormy Daniels case and said that it «could lead to incarceration or other unacceptable liberty restrictions being imposed on the leading candidate in the forthcoming Presidential election.»
Trump is asking the federal appeal court in New York to stay sentencing until it can hear legal arguments in full on whether the case should be moved to federal court.
He is appealing the decision of New York federal judge Alvin Hellerstein, who has twice rejected Trump’s attempts to transfer the case to federal court.
Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, faced trial in New York City on 34 counts of falsifying business records for hush-money payments made to former adult film actor Stormy Daniels. On May 30, a jury convicted him on all 34 counts. The former president denied any wrongdoing and has repeatedly said that it is part of a political witch hunt to derail his presidential bid.
