One of the oldest campaigning strategies in the books is going largely unused by the Democrats.
Republicans are flooding key battleground states with direct-mail campaigns attacking Vice President Kamala Harris, portraying former President Donald Trump as a defender of Social Security, and distancing him from Project 2025, among other campaign issues.
Acknowledging they are being outspent on television and the internet and out-organized on the ground in key states, the GOP appears to be pushing hard on the tried-and-true tactic of snail mail. Data from Mintt, a mail tracking firm, revealed that in September, 81 percent of all direct mail related to the presidential race came from Republican groups or pro-Trump causes.
In August, that number was 96 percent.
«Looking at average mail volume per voter over time, we can see that Republicans essentially owned voters’ mailboxes at the end of August and early September», Mintt noted.
«In September, we started to see some volume on the Democratic side, which has shifted that differential to roughly 4-to-1 GOP vs. Democratic.»
An analysis of the messages shows that the primary focus of the mailings has been the economy, an issue in which he is seen as more trusted. Pro-Trump flyers have included messages on gas prices and housing costs, inflation, Social Security, Medicare and other kitchen table issues.
Immigration, gun rights, and crime also feature prominently in Republican mailings, with groups like America PAC, MAGA PAC, the NRA and related outside organizations heavily promoting these issues in fliers and brochures.
