Google Ships Android 15, Unwraps New Pixel Drop for Recent Devices

The mobile operating system update adds ‘Private Space’ for sensitive apps, better support for satellite connectivity, and features for foldables and tablets.
Android 15 is here and will roll out to Google Pixel devices starting today.
Previous developer documentation points to 2021’s Pixel 6 series as the oldest model to support Android 15, which first surfaced in February as a developer preview. On non-Pixel devices, the mobile OS’ arrival will depend on how quickly manufacturers enable it through updates to their own software. Historically, some of these companies have been awful at that.
Google today highlighted another reason to install Android 15: making sure your device stays your device. Its announcement leads off with security and privacy features that got prominent play at Google I/O. The biggest among them: A Private Space option lets you put sensitive apps behind biometric security, hide them from view until unlocked, and even hide that you’re using the feature.
Other changes in Android 15 aim to thwart common theft tactics: Turning off Find My Device now requires your passcode or biometric authentication, while the factory-reset procedure now requires your device or Google credentials after a reset. Those who opted into securing their online accounts with passkeys—which we hope is most of you—will find a streamlined sign-in process.
