True to its name, the Miniroll is indeed quite small. The speaker measures 4.83 by 4.13 by 1.9 inches (HWD) and weighs an impressively light 9.84 ounces. The front face is emblazoned with Ultimate Ears’ signature oversized volume up and down buttons, while the side edge holds the power button and a play/pause button.
You’ll find a strap on the rear that slots into a small indentation and can be used to attach the speaker to a backpack, belt, bicycle, or anything else. The idea is that the speaker travels with you, which makes it an easy choice for outdoor activities. The Miniroll comes in a variety of colors, including Calming Pink, Gentle Black, Majestic Blue, or Revive Grey. We received the Majestic Blue model to test, which is pictured in this review.
The buttons manage the controls as you’d expect, and each has some secondary functions. For example, a quick press of both volume buttons at the same time reveals the battery level, a double-press of the play/pause button skips to the next track, and a triple-press of the play/pause button takes you to the previous track.
The Miniroll is a mono speaker. It contains one 45.6mm active driver and one 37.75 by 65mm passive radiator for bass; the company doesn’t disclose the driver’s frequency response. It supports Bluetooth 5.3 with a range of up to 130 feet. It supports the AAC, SBC, and LC3 codecs and can be paired with other Ultimate Ears speakers, but it doesn’t support Google Fast Pair.
