In 2022, ARM took legal action against Qualcomm for contract breach after Qualcomm acquired a new company, Nuvia, founded by former Apple chip engineers, in 2021.
It is said Qualcomm wants to use Nuvia’s design for new personal computer chips meant for AI PCs but according to ARM, this is a contract breach. ARM wants Qualcomm to destroy the Nuvia designs created before the acquisition as these can’t be transferred to Qualcomm.
