North Korea accused the U. S. and South Korea Friday of attempting to assassinate Kim Jong Un with biochemical weapons.
According to North Korea’s Ministry of State Security, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) in 2014 bribed a North Korean citizen working in Russia to carry out the attack against the regime’s leader.
The would-be assassin, identified only as “Kim, ” allegedly received $20,000, satellite communication equipment and biochemical substances during a meeting with South Korean intelligence agents.
“They hatched a plot of letting human scum Kim commit bomb terrorism targeting the supreme leadership during events at the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun and at military parade and public procession after his return home, ” North Korea’s state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.
The biochemical weapon, described as a “radioactive” or “nano poisonous substance, ” was to be used during the April 15 Day of the Sun military parade.
“They told him that assassination by use of biochemical substances including radioactive substance and nano poisonous substance is the best method that does not require access to the target, their lethal results will appear after six or twelve months.”
North Korea vowed to “ferret out” and “mercilessly destroy” responsible parties with counterattacks that “will be commenced from this moment.”
“We will ferret out the last one out of the fanatic terrorists of the U. S. imperialist Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the puppet National Intelligence Service (NIS) who targeted the dignity of the DPRK supreme leadership, and mercilessly destroy [them] , ” KNCA stated.
“Korean-style anti-terrorist attack will be commenced from this moment to sweep away the intelligence and plot-breeding organizations of the U. S. imperialists and the puppet clique.”
Neither the CIA or NIS have commented on the allegations from Pyongyang. The claims come amid escalating tensions between North Korea and the U. S. and its regional allies.
President Donald Trump has increased pressure on North Korea by deploying the USS Carl Vinson carrier strike group and a nuclear-powered submarine to Korean waters as well as the THAAD missile defense system in South Korea.
