Calculator app receives Project NEON tweaks
The latest version of the Calculator app, namely 10.1705.1221.0, comes with Project NEON tweaks, so instead of a solid color, the UI uses a transparency with blur appearance that allows users to peek behind the application. As you can see in the screenshots here, the visual effect is available in all calculators within the app, and also covers the input area at the bottom of the screen.
Just like it’s the case with all the other apps, clicking outside the Calculator and putting it off focus disables these new visual effects for performance reasons, so the solid color-based UI is once again activated.
Project NEON is a bigger set of visual improvements projected to launch with the Windows 10 Redstone 3 in the fall, but Microsoft has already started work on this aesthetic makeover with the existing pre-installed Windows 10 apps.
What’s very important is that Project NEON does not concern only Windows 10 apps, but also the overall experience with the operating system, as in addition to visual improvements, Microsoft is also working on new effects and animations that will be spotted while you use the OS.
Redstone 3 is expected to be finalized in September so more such updates should land in the coming months. The more complex animations that will be included in Project NEON will be first released to users participating in the Windows Insider program, so while those in the production ring are getting these blur and transparency tweaks, the full package would only go live in September.
You can get the new Calculator app in Windows 10 Creators Update right now by simply launching the Windows Store and heading over to the Downloads and updates section to install the latest version.
