Katy Perry is singing a different tune when it comes to Taylor Swift
Katy Perry is literally singing a different tune when it comes to her feud with Taylor Swift. As Us Weekly reports, the “Teenage Dream” singer has changed a notable lyric in “Swish Swish, ” the second single from her new album Witness.
The song is widely considered a diss track towards Taylor Swift whom Perry has had a public beef with since 2014. According to Us Weekly, Katy sang new lyrics to the song during a concert on Monday.
Instead of singing the original line, “Don’ t you come for me / No, not today, ” in the first verse, Katy sang, “God bless you on your journey / Oh, baby girl.”
Although Katy Perry has previously denied that the song is about Taylor, this change reflects some big changes that Perry has been making in terms of her attitude towards their feud. Before her concert appearance, Perry apologized to Swift during an interview with Arianna Huffington on Saturday.
“I forgive [Swift] and I’ m sorry for anything I ever did, and I hope the same from her, ” she said during the interview. “I think it’s… time. There are bigger fish to fry, and there are real problems in the world…. I love her, and I want the best for her.”
On Monday during an interview on The Today Show, Perry was conciliatory towards Taylor as well, saying, “God bless her on her journey.”
Katy Perry’s career has gone down an interesting path during the lead up to the release of her new album.
Her most recent alarming promotional endeavor has been to live stream her life for 72 hours and she moved into an apartment outfitted with 41 cameras to do so. The stream was filled with some vulnerable moments in which she talks about difficult topics like the conflict between her true self and her pop persona or accusations of cultural appropriation that have dogged her career.
In one of the more hilarious moments, Perry ranked her past lovers’ proficiency in the bedroom, during a conversation with James Corden.
“They’ re all amazing lovers and I want to have sex with all of them after I get out of this place, ” Katy joked, before she confessed that singer Josh Groban was a top performer. “People are like who’s ‘The One That Got Away about,’ and that’s Groban.”
As for the cultural appropriation issue, Katy Perry admitted that she’ d made mistakes in the past, Metro reports.
In a conversation with leading Black Lives Matter activist DeRay McKesson, they chatted specifically about the green cornrows she’ d sported in the “This Is How We Do” video.
She added that she’ d sought out advice and insight as to why her wearing the hairstyle in the video was so offensive.
“ [I had] a hard conversation with one of one of my empowered angels, Cleo, about what it means – why can’ t I wear my hair that way? Or, what is the history behind wearing my hair that way?” she said.
