Screenshots reveal the subtly improved iPhone 7s Plus
Photos that got leaked today reveal the bigger model, confirming some of the details that surfaced in the last couple of months and indicating that Apple is indeed planning to bring wireless charging to its devices.
First and foremost, the design. The iPhone 7s appears to be made of glass instead of aluminum, though a metal frame is still being used. The mix between the two looks exquisite in these photos, but it’s worth noting that the design overall looks rather outdated, as it’s very similar to the one of the iPhone 7, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 6.
There are no antenna lines on this model, and there’s probably a good reason why they’ re gone. The glass body allows the signal to pass through, so Apple no longer needs to use visible antennas that are placed on the back or the edges of the device.
Two grilles continue to be offered, though there’s a good chance only one of them hides a speaker – the iPhone 7s is still likely to be stereo, but the second speaker would be integrated into the cutout at the top.
Other than that, the phone is very similar to the current-generation iPhone, with a horizontal dual-camera system. The anniversary iPhone launching this year is likely to feature a dual-camera configuration as well, but it’s likely to be mounted vertically.
On the front, the Home button incorporating Touch ID will live on, as compared to the iPhone 8 where the button will be removed entirely, with Apple to either give up on the fingerprint reader or choose a different position, like under the display.
The glass body allows the iPhone 7s to feature wireless charging, and this is a feature that could make its way to the iPhone 8 too. Inductive charging would be used for this, and a charging plate will be required, and it’s believed Apple could sell it separately.
The iPhone 7s is expected to see daylight in September, along with the greatly revised iPhone 8, with sales to begin later the same month. Most likely, the iPhone 8 will hit the market at a later time due to supply issues, so the iPhone 7s will be the first to become available for customers worldwide.
