Hours after personally insulting North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, President Donald Trump in Sunday touted his mediation skills and said he would be open to resolving territorial disputes in the South China Sea.
Hours after personally insulting North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, President Donald Trump on Sunday touted his mediation skills and said he would be open to resolving territorial disputes in the South China Sea.
“If I can help mediate or arbitrate, please let me know,” Trump told Vietnam’s President Tran Dai Quang on Sunday during a visit in Hanoi. “I’m a very good mediator and arbitrator.”
Tensions have been rising in the South China Sea after China built a number of artificial islands in the region, raising worries that it would militarize the islands and pose a threat to the busy trade route. China, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Brunei and Taiwan have competing claims in the South China Sea.
