Over the long weekend, Apple finally released its iOS 11.2 update to the public. The update, which was released earlier than expected, comes with plenty of bug fixes and improvements including support for faster wireless charging on iPhone 8 and iPhone X, improves video camera stabilisation, and more. The update also introduces Apple Pay Cash, Apple’s person-to-person payment system on iMessage, but sadly, the feature is only available for folks in the U. S.
Apple released iOS 11.2 earlier than expected due to a weird date bug that started crashing some iPhones on 2 December 2017. Those affected by the bug would see their iPhone crash repeatedly when the time turned 12:15am on 2 December 2017 on the device. Apple recommended for users to manually change the date on their devices to an earlier date as a temporary workaround. Not long after, the company rolled out iOS 11.2 to the public, which addresses the date bug.
On top of that, iOS 11.2 also adds support for faster 7.5-watt wireless charging on the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X with Qi-based charging pads. Other notable changes include three new Live wallpapers for iPhone X, improves video camera stabilisation, adds support in HealthKit for downhill snow sports distance as a data type, fixes a bug where Settings app could open to a blank screen, fixed an issue that could prevent swiping to Today View or Camera from the Lock Screen, fixes an issue where Find My iPhone wouldn’t display a map, fixed Calculator bug where typing numbers rapidly could lead to incorrect results, and more.
