More information has emerged regarding the Galaxy S9 family hardware
Word on the street is that the Galaxy S9 series will be arriving quite early inside the new year; some time within the first quarter, so it’s little wonder the leaks are starting to pile up.
The latest see listings of dual-SIM variants of both the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. Samsung filed documents with regulatory bodies for a handset model SM-G9608, the number eight on the end denotes this as a handset which will arrive in the Taiwanese market, as well as the SM-G9600 and SM-G9650 as the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ respectively for the Chinese market. All these are believed to be dual-SIM designs and were spotted on both the Chinese MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) database and that of the FCC.
Moving on, we recently heard that the LG G7 may sport some advanced all-in-one iris scanner and front camera array, and it now seems that Samsung is looking to upgrade its iris scanner tech aboard the Galaxy S9 series in 2018 as well. The info comes via The Korea Herald, which claims both members of the Galaxy S9 series will feature improved 3MP iris scanners (up from the 2MP of their predecessors) which will enhance the accuracy and speed of the biometric scanning functionality. Unlike LG’s alleged all-in-one unit, it will still be a dedicated iris scanner camera separate from the front-facing camera for capturing selfies and the like.
» The iris camera lens will be improved to 3 megapixels from 2 megapixels of Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 to capture clearer images. The scanner will better recognize users’ irises even when they wear eyeglasses, move their eyeballs or are in a too dark or too light environment,» said the report.
It’s thought Samsung will also develop more advanced software to go with the new hardware, and the firm may be able to shave as much as a full second off the time it takes to use the iris scanner compared to previous offerings. It will still, therefore, be slower than using a fingerprint scanner, but will be noticably quicker than before.
