A recent thread on OnePlus forums has highlighted a rather interesting issue regarding OnePlus 5T. According to the post, the phone is lacking the support for a certain DRM certification which needed for high definition playback on several major video streaming providers.
As the story goes, OnePlus 5T apparently didn’t have the Widevine Level 1 Certification which is the required security level needed for the phone to allow HD playback from Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Google Play Movies. According to the DRM Info app, the phone only has the support for Widevine Level 3 Certification:
At Level 3, OnePlus 5T users are only able to view contents from these services at HD resolution. It is indeed an odd problem for the phone to have since it is more than capable to provide HD playback as OnePlus 5T is equipped with 6-inch full HD display, 6GB of RAM, and Qualcomm Snapdragon 835.
There is still a light at the end of the tunnel though: OnePlus has confirmed that it is working on a fix for the issue and it will be delivered in the future update for the 5T. However, the roll out time frame for the update is not yet known at the moment.
Since OnePlus 5T will be released in Malaysia soon, this might be a concern to local Netflix bingers out there that already planning to get their hands on the phone. Then again, it is only a matter of time before the issue is solved anyway, provided that OnePlus is able to keep its promise on providing the fix for the issue in the near future.
