Microsoft today announced a major update for its Teams service, calling it the «biggest single release of new functionality since Teams launched last March.»
One of the new features introduced is an app store. There’s now a sort of one-stop shop for searching for and discovering new apps that integrate with Teams. You can search by name, category, or integration type.
But there are also new integrations with these apps. Rather than having to include a screenshot or a link to information, you can include content from an app directly into the thread. You can add a «specific task in Trello, a work item in Wrike, or a weather forecast, and include an interactive card with that information into a message.»
There is a new personal view for apps as well. With this, you can view all of the tasks that you’ve been assigned from various apps. These can include documents, OneNote notebooks, tasks in Planner, and so on. You’ll also find a new app there called Who, which is powered by the Microsoft Graph, that lets you search your organization for different people.
You’ll now be able to use commands for apps directly from within the command box. With this, you can also use slash commands (you can type ‘/’ to get a list of available commands).
Microsoft says that the new features are rolling out starting today, and you should see them in your Teams app soon.
