The declaration was signed Saturday, Feb. 24
KENT COUNTY, MI — Kent County leaders have declared a local state of emergency because of the significant flooding.
County Board of Commissioners Chair James Saalfeld signed the declaration Saturday, Feb. 24.
Declaring a state of emergency is an indicator that significant resources have been targeted at the city, township and county level to deal with flooding problems.
It also is a first step in positioning the county to receive state and federal dollars for flooding repairs.
Damage assessments will need to be completed to determine the level of financial loss because of flooding.
The counties of Newaygo, Ionia and Ottawa also have made local state of emergency declarations.
