Rockies star takes exception to pitch behind him from San Diego’s Luis Perdomo and both dugouts empty.
The benches emptied Wednesday afternoon in Denver when San Diego Padres pitcher Luis Perdomo threw a ball behind Colorado Rockies star third baseman Nolan Arenado.
Arenado charged the mound, ducked a glove thrown at him by Perdomo and threw a punch as players from both dugouts scurried onto the field.
In the aftermath, Arenado also had some words with Padres hitting coach Mark McGwire.
Arenado and Perdomo were ejected, as were Padres catcher A. J. Ellis, Rockies outfielder Gerardo Parra and Rockies pitcher German Marquez.
Suspensions are likely forthcoming.
The incident may have stemmed from last night’s game, when San Diego center fielder Manuel Margot was hit in the ribs by a pitch and had to go on the disabled list.
Or maybe it goes back even further… It’s the sixth hit batter so far this season in the seven games the two teams have played.
