May’s Xbox Games With Gold are revealed, promising several free Xbox One and Xbox 360 games for Xbox Gold subscribers including Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain.
Microsoft’s Major Nelson is putting in some weekend work, today revealing May’s line-up of Xbox One and Xbox 360 Games With Gold. May will add four new games to Xbox Live Gold subscribers, two for Xbox One and two for Xbox 360 as is ritual. This May’s selection of titles ranges from blockbuster to retro, from indie to instant classic. Headlined by Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain, May might just be the best Games With Gold month yet in 2018.
Here is May 2018’s line-up of Xbox Games With Gold:
Oddly enough, the May Games With Gold YouTube video may have been published earlier than Microsoft originally intended. The marketing that typically surrounds the reveals hasn’t gone out yet, which could imply that the video was published early and technically the games aren’t wholly official. Odds are everything is fine, but fair warning that there’s always a possibility things might change at the last second.
Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain really needs no introduction. Hideo Kojima’s final game in the Metal Gear franchise and his last game working for Konami takes the franchise in a surprising yet exciting direction. The action-stealth game mixes an open world with a structured mission format, encouraging players to experiment with their gameplay to progress while also delivering a classic AAA Kojima story. Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain will be available on Xbox One from May 1 through the end of the month.
Super Mega Baseball 2 will be debuting when it becomes available for Xbox Live Gold subscribers on May 1, a brand new release featured on Games With Gold. The sequel to the popular indie baseball sim will be adding new features including multiplayer, extensive team and league customization, and a visual overhaul. It will be available on Xbox One throughout the month of May and end with the start of June’s Games With Gold.
Both Xbox 360 titles available in May’s Games With Gold, the Streets of Rage Collection and Vanquish, are backward compatible and work on Xbox One too. Streets of Rage will be available between May 1 and May 15, with Vanquish filling in the days between May 16 through May 31.
April’s Games With Gold line-up, which included The Witness and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, is gone on April 30 so make sure to check those games out now. And look forward to May’s games starting Tuesday, May 1.
