NewsHubA Huntington Beach police officer shot and killed a dog that bit him while arresting a man suspected of vandalism Sunday night.
Several people called police at about 11:22 p.m. reporting that a man was hitting cars and throwing objects in the 16000 block of 14th Street in Sunset Beach.
Officers discovered the damaged cars and came across the man – whom police described as being disruptive and uncooperative, said Huntington Beach Officer Jennifer Marlatt. Police also learned the man was suspected of assaulting someone and tried to arrest him.
“As officers were attempting to take him into custody, his dog bit one of the officers,” Marlatt said. “The dog continued to be aggressive and one officer attempted to tase the dog, which was unsuccessful.”
The dog kept going after the officers until one fatally shot him.
The officer was treated and released from a hospital with minor injuries and the suspect was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. His name has not been released.
