From what appeared to be a hospital bed, the senator said in a video that he had been “overheated” and was fine.
Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina collapsed at a race in Washington on Wednesday morning and was taken to a hospital by ambulance, but he said in a video that he was “fine.”
In the video, Mr. Tillis, 56, speaking from what appeared to be a hospital bed, said that he had been “overheated” and that there had been “no CPR, no special measures, just checking me out.”
“See you back on the Hill, ” he said.
A little more than an hour earlier, a local TV news anchor posted a photo on Twitter of several people surrounding a man on a stretcher, writing that three men “saved the life” of the senator.
The senator’s office declined to comment on Wednesday morning, and a race spokesman did not immediately return messages seeking comment.
Mr. Tillis was the captain of a team for the A. C. L. I. Capital Challenge Three Mile Team Race, which began at 8 a.m. in Anacostia Park. The race website lists as participants five senators and 13 U. S. Representatives, along with executive branch employees, judges and members of the media.
A Republican, Mr. Tillis was elected to the U. S. Senate in 2014. He serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee; Veterans’ Affairs Committee; Judiciary Committee; Senate Special Committee on Aging; and the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee.
He was elected to the state House in North Carolina in 2006 and became speaker in 2011. He lives with his wife in Huntersville, N. C., and has two adult children.
