Customers who do their Prime Day shopping using Alexa are going to have a two-hour head-start and exclusive deals.
Amazon’s yearly discount bonanza is nearly upon us again. Prime Day starts on July 10, with discounts on a vast range of products exclusively for Amazon Prime customers.
And Amazon is taking the exclusivity one step further this year by offering customers exclusive early access to deals if they place their order via the Alexa voice assistant.
It’s clearly a push for Amazon to try and get people who use the digital assistant to start doing voice shopping. For us, there is still something that feels uncertain about commanding Alexa to purchase something that you haven’ t actually seen.
According to Amazon’s vice president of voice shopping Assaf Ronen: “Prime members have asked, ‘Alexa, what are your deals?’ more than three million times since we launched Alexa deals last year, and we’re thrilled to deliver even better deals this year.”
Having a look at the deals, there’s nothing that’s jumping out at us as a must-have deal so far. There is a discount on the Bose Soundlink Bluetooth Speaker III, and the second generation of the Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus, which works with Alexa.
If you want to get the best deals during Prime Day, make sure to keep your eyes on our Prime Day page.
The early access starts at 16: 00 PST, meaning you’ ll have to be having a conversation with Alexa at 23: 00 if you’ re shopping in the UK. That’s a solid two hour head-start on the desktop version of Prime Day, that starts at 18: 00 and 01: 00 respectively.
In order to take advantage of these deals you have to give your Alexa-powered device the command ‘Alexa, order…’ followed by whatever the product is.
One thing that you don’ t get when shopping by voice is the ability to compare products next to each other. So, for example, we received an email telling us that during Prime Day a LG 43-inch 4K TV will be at least 30% off. That’s a great deal, but there is already this 43-inch LG 4K TV that is currently 37% off on Amazon.
Call us old-fashioned, but we like the control of being able to do our shopping where we can see what we’ re buying.
