Second man charged with murder in Benton Harbor shooting death

Prosecutors believe the victim was shot to death during a robbery attempt.
BENTON HARBOR, MI — A second man has been charged in a fatal shooting that a prosecutor alleges happened during an attempted robbery.
Antonio Hall, 21, of Benton Harbor, has been charged with felony murder, armed robbery and felony firearm in connection with the Tuesday, Aug. 15, shooting death of Nathaniel Lee, the Berrien County Prosecutor’s Office reports.
The shooting occurred in Benton Harbor’s River Terrace housing complex about 11: 45 p.m.
Lee was sitting in a parked vehicle with another person when he was shot twice, the prosecutor’s office said.
The prosecutor’s office alleges Hall and Davion Turner conspired with two others to rob Lee and during the course of the robbery, Lee was shot to death.
A police investigation “produced evidence more clearly supporting the theory of a plan to rob Nathaniel Lee with the use of firearms, ” the prosecutor’s office said in an Aug. 23 news release.
At Hall’s arraignment on the charges on Wednesday, Aug. 23, his bond was set at $1,000,000 cash or surety with GPS monitoring.
His pre-exam conference is set for Friday, Sept. 1, and his preliminary examination hearing for Thursday, Sept. 7. Both will be held at 8: 30 a.m. in Berrien County’s St. Joseph courthouse.
Turner, 19, of Conyers, Georgia, was charged on Aug. 18 with open murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in connection with the shooting.

“It is believed Turner was here from Georgia visiting his father in Benton Harbor, ” a previous news release authorized by Prosecutor Mike Sepic states. “Police developed Turner as a suspect quickly resulting in Turner turning himself in to police Thursday afternoon.”
The prosecutor said he would be seeking to amend Turner’s charges to include felony murder and armed robbery.
Felony murder carries a penalty of life without parole, armed robbery, life or any term of years. Felony firearm carries a penalty of a 2-year mandatory sentence consecutive to any other charge.
