Trump, then a private citizen, had mocked Rubio for stopping to drink water while responding to former President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address.
Marco Rubio has some advice for President Donald Trump on how to best quench his thirst.
Trump taunted the Florida senator in 2013 for stopping to drink water while responding to former President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address. Rubio got a chance to get back at the president on Wednesday when Trump paused while addressing reporters at the White House to open a bottle of water and take several sips.
“Similar, but needs work on his form. Has to be done in one single motion & eyes should never leave the camera. But not bad for his 1st time,” Rubio tweeted Wednesday.
Trump, during his first public comments since returning from a diplomatic trip to Asia, stopped suddenly while discussing his trade efforts in Japan.
“They don’t have water. That’s OK,” Trump said. He initially ducked down beneath his lectern in search of water bottle. After someone off-camera pointed to the Fiji bottle on a table, the president picked it up and, without looking away from the television cameras, unscrewed the top. He glanced away and lowered his mouth to the bottle, then tipped it back and took a sip.
A few minutes later, Trump paused again to sip from the water bottle.
Trump, then a private citizen, had mocked Rubio for his own water-related mishap.
“Next time Marco Rubio should drink his water from a glass as opposed to a bottle—would have much less negative impact,” Trump tweeted following the incident.
Trump also taunted Rubio for sweating on the 2016 campaign trail.
“He walks in and he’s drenched. I have never seen a human being sweat like this man sweats,” Trump said at a rally in February, 2016. “It looked like he had just jumped into a swimming pool with his clothes on.”
Trump opened a water bottle and sprayed it, exclaiming, “It’s Rubio!”
