Nintendo announces that the indie hit Stardew Valley is the most downloaded Switch title of 2017, beating out other hits like Minecraft, Sonic Mania, and more.
In a recent list published by Nintendo, Stardew Valley ranked as the most downloaded Switch title of 2017 globally. Nintendo released two lists, one that broke down the top 30 most downloaded titles globally, and one that listed the top 30 most downloaded titles in Japan.
While Stardew Valley took the top spot, the list is of games that were released in Japan but were sold globally, so certain titles are omitted from the list, such as The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ or Golf Story, which did not see a Japanese release.
Following Stardew Valley on the list is Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition and Sonic Mania to wrap out the top three most downloaded Switch titles of 2017. Fans of Stardew Valley were excited to see the indie farm life simulator come to Switch, and the numbers certainly reflect that. Ever since it’s debut in 2016, Stardew Valley has risen to the top of many charts. However, while it took the top spot globally, it didn’t even place in the top 30 for Japan.
The indie hit of 2016 continues to draw both returning and new fans back in. Stardew Valley is set to receive an update in the near future which will add multiplayer co-op as well as some new features and activities. Developer Eric Barone confirmed on Twitter that the new additions to the game are complete, and his attention is nowfocused solely on getting multiplayer ready. He tweeted a screenshot of a four-player co-op session he was testing, which made fans of the game even more excited for multiplayer farming fun.
The Switch is seemingly the perfect home for a relaxing game like Stardew Valley, since it allows players to take the peaceful farming town with them wherever they go. While the same can be said for other games like Minecraft, Stardew Valley has a small-town charm that makes it lovable for so many, and it’s only going to get better as more updates roll out for it.
Stardew Valley is available for PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
