We all know that Sony is prepping for the launch of a bunch of new smartphones, and they plan to announce them at the MWC 2018 exhibition which is starting in a few days. In December 2018, an unannounced smartphone – Sony H8266 – appeared in Geekbench’s database, revealing an interesting set of specifications. The phone had managed to score 2393 points in the single-core test and 8300 points in the multi-core test. Today, we have glanced upon information which reveals the screen resolution of the smartphone through AnTuTu’s database.
One more high-end phone, the Sony Xperia XZ2 Pro (with codename H8116) has appeared through an HTML benchmark test. The Sony H8266 could be named the Xperia XZ2 if the screen resolution turns out to be true. Last year, Sony had released the XZ1 with Full HD screen resolution and XZ Premium with 4K screen resolution. This year, since the phones feature 18:9 aspect ratio, the XZ2 (H8266) could feature Full HD+ screen resolution and XZ2 Pro (H8116) could feature 4K+ resolution.
Going by the AnTuTu’s listing, the Sony H8266 will offer Full HD+ resolution (1080×2160 pixels) with an 18:9 aspect ratio. This listing contradicts the earlier rumour which had claimed that the phone will ship with a screen that has 16:9 aspect ratio. The Sony Xperia XZ2 Pro could feature OLED HDR screen with 4K+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. The phones are expected to feature rear-facing fingerprint readers, ditching the fingerprint reader inside the power button.
In terms of hardware, the smartphones will be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset which has a 64-bit octa-core CPU and the ultra-powerful Adreno 630 GPU. The Sony H8266 could feature 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, while the Sony Xperia XZ2 Pro could feature 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There’s no doubt that the phones will also have expandable storage via a microSD card slot (compatible with up to 256GB cards). The phones could also come with dual rear-facing cameras.

Over the past few days, we have already seen detailed specifications of the multiple Sony Xperia series of smartphones. The Sony H8266 is rumoured to measure 157×78×8.1mm in terms of dimensions, and weigh around 159 grammes. The smartphone is expected to run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with Sony’s customised user interface. On the other hand, the XZ2 Pro has appeared running Android 8.1 Oreo in the HTML benchmark rest. The phones could be released in single and dual-SIM variants and could also have IP68 certification for dust and water resistance. One of the phones is rumoured to come packed with a 3240mAh battery with Qnovo Adaptive Charging feature.
There are only two weeks remaining before the commencement of MWC 2018, which means that we will not have to wait long to see what Sony’s high-end Xperia phones bring to the table. The devices have to be brilliant to compete with the competition, which includes the Samsung Galaxy S9 /S9+, Xiaomi Mi 2S, HTC U12, and the OnePlus 6.
