Xiaomi is doing quite well when it comes to sales with the Mi A1. The company recently released the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro which brings the question when will the company launch the Xiaomi Mi A2.
Xiaomi with its Mi A1 broke the ice and Android One again gained popularity, it was even said that the late Nexus line is being reborn. The rest we all know is history, Motorola and HTC also jumped in to ensure further stability in Google’s Android One portfolio.
However, the main star in the Android One line-up is still the Xiaomi’s Mi A1 with its high value for money ratio and also scoring higher in the camera department has made it successful for both the companies. The Mi A1 easily puts the Upper-mid range smartphone’s camera’s to shame. With that said, it’s 2018, and everyone is wondering about the successor, that is the Mi A2 which should be landing somewhere around in early Q3 2018. Here we’ll talk about the all the expected specs of the device as per the rumors and leaks we have seen so far.

Xiaomi Mi A1 majorly resembles, Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus’s style design language which is nothing new when it comes to Chinese OEMs. However, this one holds the responsibility of a Google’s Budget Android One flagship, so Xiaomi with the Upcoming Mi A2 should think about a design overhaul. Yes, on the front we will undoubtedly see an edge-to-edge screen which will follow the trendy 18:9 ratio; coming in with razor-thin bezels on the sides.
Interestingly, in a recent leak from a Chinese tipster who posted a pic of which allegedly claim to be the Mi A2. And, here we have it again, the device in these pics looks like an iPhone X clone from the rear, due to its similar camera cluster placement. While on the front, as we mentioned earlier a 5.6-inch IPS LCD panel (probably carrying the Full-HD+ resolution) can be seen. The rear of the device appears to have a matte metal finish, along with excellent looking ergonomics on its sides.
Those slight curves on each side of the back should enhance the in-hand feel of the device making it more premium. So, if these pics hold any truth, then we should say Mi A2 is going to be exciting, while it may disappoint Android purist due its big iPhone style personality, it all comes down to personal preferences. Will it come with Corning’s Gorilla glass or not, remains to be seen.
Currently, the Mi A1 is powered by a Snapdragon 625, an SD 626 isn’t that much of an upgrade but we’ll still consider it, so the other options we have
These are some possible processors that might end up under the hood of the Xiaomi Mi A2. Interestingly, the Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with Snapdragon 636, so this could also be a possible candidate for the Android One Mi A2.
Now moving ahead, in the memory department, we will see the similar story like last year,4GB/64GB variant. Or a 6GB RAM variant could also be released for a premium price.
We should not forget that Xiaomi’s Mi A1 also had a China-only variant called the Mi 5X and Xiaomi was also using the same set Camera software that’s found on the Mi A1, if not the interface, at least it’s using the same algorithms that gives it such precise Edge detection. And we think Google was also involved, so the Mi A2 might also feature Google Pixel like HDR+ capabilities will be a significant upgrade for the successor of the Mi A1.
Moreover, the Mi A2 will undoubtedly feature the dual-cameras one with a 16MP primary lens while other could be an 8MP telephoto lens, paired with a Dual-Tone LED flash. While on the front a 16MP selfie shooter would be quite a delightful upgrade from its 8MP snapper, which might also house the trendy portrait mode. Apart from that, Xiaomi might add EIS from the start, and OIS seems too much for a device of this caliber.
As it is an Android One device, Google’s stock android will be running on it. Also, we expect the Xiaomi Mi A2 to comes with Android P 9.0 out of the box, rather than Android Oreo 8.1. Google’s AR core and Lenses could make it this time on the Mi A2, while stable Android security patches will be delivered similar to what we saw earlier. So, nothing major on this front, just a new version of Android is expected.
Pricing will be an essential factor for the Mi A2’s success, and Xiaomi usually prices its devices, much less than the competition, so a few steps down from the Moto G6. The device will be priced somewhere between the price tag of Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro.
