Last month Gabe Newell said that Valve was finally going to start shipping games again, and its latest acquisition looks to be a step toward making that happen. Firewatch developer Campo Santo has announced that it was bought by Valve and will now be making games under the company.
In a blog post, the team at Campo Santo revealed that they will maintain their jobs as game developers and continue work on their previously announced project, In the Valley of Gods. Campo Santo assures that its regular blog content and The Quarterly Review won’t be going anywhere and will keep being produced.
“We had a series of long conversations with the people at Valve and everyone shared the satisfaction we take in working with people whose talents dwarf our own to make things we never thought possible,” the announcement states. “Both sides spoke about our values and how, when you get right down to it, we, as human beings, are hard-limited by the time we have left when it comes to making the things we care about and believe in.”
The former indie developer, which is based in San Francisco, will be moving up to Bellevue, Washington to be with Valve.
In the Valley of Gods was announced at The Game Awards in December and is currently set to release in 2019. It will be launching on PC platforms but console releases have not been ruled out.
